Kastoria fascinates (dazzles, mesmerizes, charms, magnetizes, captures under its spell) every visitor from the first moment they step foot in it. This is partly due to Lake Orestiada which is visible from any point in the town, giving one the impression that they are on an island. Furthermore the town hosts a significant number of Byzantine and post-Byzantine era churches. Kastoria became widely known for its fur coats. Kastorians are exceptionally skilled in the art of making fur clothing. There you will also see 500-year history of the development of houses of nobility.<\/h6>\n
The day begins with a cycling tour around Lake Orestida, the distance is around 8km, ideal for families as the path is flat and the ground is smooth. Even from the first moments of a bicycle ride, we will be enamoured by the lakeside forest which has been declared as a natural reserve. Our first stop is the so-called \u201ccavern of the dragon\u201d, a site of unique beauty with its otherworldly stalagmites and stalactites. Afterwards, we shall visit the Monastery of Virgin Mary Mavriotissa, an invaluable work of Byzantine art, built-in 1082. At the end of the cycling trip, we will visit the old town section of Kastoria<\/a> (Doltzo) where will be captivated by its cobblestone alleys, it’s well preserved elegant noble housing.<\/h6>\n
